It can sometimes be difficult to know what to buy a mom-to-be for her new arrival. You want to buy something that she will like and find use for, but perhaps also something that is a bit different. If you are attending a baby shower and you still have not decided what gift to give the expectant mom, what about diaper cakes? For anyone not familiar with these, as the name suggests they are made from diapers and are presented just like a tiered wedding cake. Not only does mom get a useful supply of diapers, but a number of baby related items tucked into the cake. What mom would not be delighted with such a beautiful present?
Diaper cakes usually have between two and six layers. They can be decorated with brightly coloured ribbons and bows and often there is a theme that runs through the cake; this could be animals, flowers, a cartoon character or related to the time of year the baby is due such as Spring, Halloween or Christmas - though there really is no limit other than your imagination. The cakes are usually presented on a decorated plate, usually in keeping with the theme of the cake. Your choice of cake might depend on whether it is for a baby girl or boy and which design you think the mom will like best.
For those of you who have a creative streak, there are step by step guides and even video footage on the internet for exactly how to make such a cake. However, there are also many businesses who will gladly deliver one. There are cakes for every budget and with the special offers that are often available, diaper cakes can be an affordable choice of baby shower gift. With so many options of cake available, including those that can be custom-made, you will struggle not to find one that the expectant mom will love. For environmentally conscious moms you can even buy cakes made from biodegradable or cloth diapers.
When it comes to the gifts added to the cake, baby essentials such as bath products, a pacifier, bib, teething ring, rattle or booties are all common. There will also usually be a soft toy. Some cakes may also have a little something for mom, perhaps some bubble bath or a voucher to spend on herself. If you are making your own cake or getting one custom-made, you can obviously add whatever gifts you think mom would like for her baby. However, there is also the option of buying plain diaper cakes so the hard part of making the cake has been taken care of, and you can have the fun of adding the presents.
